Teaching Development Award for Part-Time Instructors

Supporting excellence in teaching is central to the strategic plan of the College of Arts and Sciences. In recognition of the critical contribution part-time instructors make in this vital area, this award provides support for the purchase of materials and the cultivation of experiences to enhance part-time instruction. 

Examples of this Award’s Scope

  • Purchase of books to deepen knowledge in a content area taught by the instructor
  • Purchase of materials related to the scholarship of teaching to enhance the classroom experience
  • Expenses associated with the attendance of a conference or workshop related to a content area taught by the instructor or teaching methods

 Award details

  • Instructors are eligible for up to $500 to be awarded during a semester they are contracted to teach in CAS with preference given to those who have not yet received this award
  • Funds must be used in accordance with University procedures and for the purpose for which they were awarded 
  • To remain eligible for a subsequent award, recipients must submit a brief final report within 3 months of the end of the award period that includes a summary of how the money was spent and how it will impact teaching
  • All awards are subject to final budgetary approval and authorization by the dean of the College. 
  • Funds may not be used for technology purchases or classroom equipment

Deadlines

Feb. 1 and Sept. 30

This award will be offered for the deadlines listed as long as funds are available.

Application

Instructors should make sure that both the complete application cover sheet along with required attachments and  return to the College of Arts and Sciences Office of the Dean by the deadline. Late submissions will not be considered.
