The Department of Sociology at Western Michigan University offers internship opportunities which help prepare students for graduate school or careers in sociology and criminal justice.


application process

  1. All students must arrange an individual interview with Dr. Zoann Snyder, Criminal Justice Program Director. The interview must be arranged directly with Snyder via email at and will take about 20 minutes. To be eligible for an internship for either Summer or Fall 2018 you must have met with Snyder by January 16, 2018.

  2. Students will bring a copy of their resume to their interview.
  3. At the conclusion of the interview, students will be given access to an actual application and information about the required supporting documentation. Please note that the internship application materials are newly redesigned and the old application form will not be accepted.

You will also be required to attend a one hour workshop which will address resume and cover letter writing and practice interviews. You  may attend the workshop on either Wednesday, January 17, 10-11 a.m. or Tuesday, January 23, 3-4 p.m. The workshops are held in Sangren, room 4550.
