Register

The purpose of registering student organizations is to give them access to university facilities, funding, and opportunities for leadership development. The Office of Student Engagement recognizes hundreds of RSOs at Western Michigan University, but if you can't find one that's just right for you, you can start your own!

RSO re-registration will close for the 23-24 year on Friday, October 27 at midnight.

All those seeking to register a student organization after Friday, October 27; must contact the Graduate Assistant that oversees WMU RSO’s AbbyLynne Baxter at Ose-RSOdevelopment@wmich.edu

Thursday, February 29 at midnight, re-registration for the 24-25 year will open. All RSOs will have to re-register for the 23-24 year in order to keep their accounts active from being frozen for the 24-25 year.

Steps

  • Create a name for your organization.

RSOs may not use WMU or Western Michigan University at the beginning of their name but may use “at WMU”—e.g., Rock Club at WMU instead of WMU Rock Club.

  • Have at least four members.

RSO members must be current WMU students with @wmich.edu email addresses.

  • Create a constitution.

Sample RSO Constitution

  • Identify an RSO advisor, and work with them to complete these two forms:

RSO Advisor Letter of Intent and RSO Advisor Expectations Form

RE-REGISTER AN EXISTING ORGANIZATION

RSOs must re-register each academic year to maintain RSO status and privileges. ExperienceWMU will save your information from the previous year so you do not need to start from scratch. However, the roster and required documents must be updated each year. Detailed guidelines can be found in the 23-24 RSO Handbook.
