Professional Counseling License

If you have completed a Western Michigan University Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology master’s degree in counselor education in one of the following concentrations:

  • **Clinical mental health counseling;
  • **College counseling;
  • *Marriage, couple and family counseling;
  • ***Rehabilitation counseling; or
  • **School counseling,

and are seeking licensure as a licensed professional counselor (LLPC/LPC) in Michigan, follow these steps to submit the section of the Michigan Counselor Application form that will need to be completed by WMU.

  1. Fill out the appropriate counselor application packet available through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) system: State of Michigan Licensed Professional Application and Information
  2. Email the section of the counselor application form titled "Certificate of Counseling Education" to: coe-certification@wmich.edu or mail to:

Psychologist License

If you have completed a WMU Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology master's or doctoral degree in *counseling psychology and are seeking a master's level or doctoral level license as a psychologist in Michigan, follow these steps to steps to submit the section of the Michigan Psychology Application form that will need to be completed by WMU. 

  1. Fill out the appropriate Psychology Application packet available through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) system: State of Michigan Psychology Application and Information.

The Michigan Board of Psychology was originally formed with the enactment of Public Act 257 of 1959. On September 30, 1978, this authority was transferred to the Public Health Code, Public Act 368 of 1978, as amended.
