The Office of Student Engagement’s leadership experiences come in a variety of different formats to meet the different interests of our students. Attend one or attend them all!
Leadership and Involvement Conference
The Leadership and Involvement Conference aims to provide students the environment and tools necessary to learn new skills, connect with other student leaders and to plan for their upcoming leadership commitments on campus. Students can expect great keynote speakers, a variety of breakout sessions and opportunities to network with other students and community members.The event is open to all WMU students as well as students from institutions throughout Michigan. The 2017 Leadership and Involvement Conference has already occurred this year.
The Fall and Spring Leadership Retreats are two-day off-campus programs that are activity focused. These programs are developed and facilitated by students for students. The retreats include a low ropes course in the fall and a high ropes course in the spring. No matter what level leadership experience, the retreats are great ways for students to network with other student leaders and build upon their leadership skills. These events are WMU Signature and SPURS approved. The registration fee for each retreat is $10.
The Fall Leadership Retreat will be taking place at Merriewoode Girl Scout Camp on November 3-4, 2017.

The Leaders Unplugged program consists of backpacking trips focused on personal exploration and leadership concepts. There is a weekend trip in the fall and a week-long trip in the spring. The Fall Leaders Unplugged trip will take place October 20-22, 2017 and the Spring Leaders Unplugged trip will be held April 30-May 4, 2018. All WMU students are invited to participate regardless of outdoor experience.

Join the Office of Student Engagement and local giggle sensation Improv Effects for an informative workshop on the intersection of improv and real life skills. Improv Effects uses the techniques and philosophies of improvised theatre to build better teams, better communication, and better leadership. Don't miss out on this fun-tastic Pioneer Series event!
