Billing

In an effort to save time, resources and enhance sustainability, Western Michigan University currently utilizes electronic billing for student monthly statements. Beginning Summer II 2018, WMU will also go paperless and utilize electronic billing for all semester invoices. As we strive to increase our sustainability, it is also our hope this will eliminate mail delays and provide students earlier account notification with more planning time.

Monthly statements

Monthly statements are only available electronically through the student’s payment and account information. Statements generate on or after the 15th of every month. Monthly statements provide detail for new charges in addition to showing the unpaid prior past due balance. Students and authorized users receive an email and text when a new monthly statement is available for viewing. Students with a $0.00 balance and no current activity will not receive a monthly statement.

Students can view their monthly statement and account balance by logging in through GoWMU with their Bronco NetID and password, and then selecting the Payment and Account Information channel. Authorized users may view statements and make payment by logging into the authorized user website with their email address and password.

Semester invoices

Through Summer I 2018, WMU will mail a semester invoice to the permanent address of all students registered for Western Michigan University classes. Invoices are generated four to five weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. The semester invoice will include tuition, fees, room and board, pending financial aid, class schedule for the semester and the tuition due date.

Beginning Summer II, 2018 invoices will no longer be mailed to students. Students and authorized users will receive an email/text notification when the invoices are complete and ready for viewing.  It is important for students to check their wmich.edu email account for invoice and statement notifications.

Students registered after invoice generation

Students not registered prior to invoice generation will be able to see the tuition and fees, payments and pending financial aid on the next monthly statement (available only through GoWMU or the authorized user website). Students and authorized users will receive notification via email/text when a statement is available to view. The monthly statement will not include your class schedule. Students can view their class schedule through GoWMU.  Authorized proxy users can view student class schedules by logging in the student account through the Proxy Access Login.

Details on payment options are available through cashiering on WMU’s website. Students may also utilize the University payment plan or employer deferred payment plan.

Students utilizing a third party sponsor to pay their account should carefully read the third party policy information  and adhere to deadlines for financial guarantees to avoid service charges.

Tuition rates

The tuition rate for Western Michigan University is set by the Board of Trustees.  These rates are broken down by semester, undergraduate resident and non-resident, graduate resident and non-resident, by college and by campus. Tuition and fees are generally due approximately one week before the semester or session begins. More detail information regarding tuition and fees is available on the Registrar’s website.  In addition, academic calendars include many important dates for each semester such as registration dates, refund dates, withdrawal dates, finals, midterm grading, final grading and tuition due dates.
