Students earn business scholarships

KALAMAZOO -- The Haworth College of Business announced scholarships for the 1998-99 academic year. The awards range from $25 to $5,000. Students were recognized for their academic excellence and extracurricular participation in the college's activities.

MICHIGAN--

ADRIAN-- Jeffrey T. Blanton, 366 Highland Drive. Old Kent Bank Scholarship, a $750 award given to outstanding students in the Haworth College of Business. A junior majoring in finance and commercial law, he is the son of Thomas and Sharon Blanton of Adrian.

ALTO-- Wendy L. Faher, 9300 76th St. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $400 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Folkert and Marge Faber of Alto.

BANGOR-- Jamie A. Zioncheck, 60363 C.R. 378. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A sophomore planning to major in accountancy, she is the daughter of James and Terry Zioncheck of Bangor.

BATTLE CREEK-- Dorothy S. Mario, 160 Eisenhower. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Suk Sun Jensen of 407 Appalachian Way, Martinez, Calif.

Alesha M. Sands, 6764 B Drive N. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $50 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Larry Wilder of Battle Creek and Debra Wilder of 117 Tulip Tree Lane, Urbandale.

COLDWATER-- Randy A. Holloway, 440 N. Snow Prairie Road. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in computer information systems, he is the son of James and Laquata Holloway of 62 Carl Croley Road, Williamsburg, Ken.

DETROIT-- Jamal M. Brooks, 14161 Penrod. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of LeRoy Peake of 414 W. Patterson, Kalamazoo, and Beverly Brooks of Detroit.

Detra N. Cunningham, 19340 Manor. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of James Cunningham of 19888 Cranbrook, Detroit, and Josephine Cunningham of 19340 Manor, Detroit.

Juandisha M. Harris, 8112 Hollywood. Comerica Scholarship, a $1,500 award based on academic achievement. A senior majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Lorine Harris of Detroit.

Mijanou N. Minto, 16627 Stout. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in food marketing, she is the daughter of Lloyd Minto of 14835 Lesure, Detroit, and Rebecca Monroe of 16627 Stout, Detroit.

Tineka S. Newton, 15800 Wisconsin. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in human resources management, she is the daughter of Richard Newton Sr. of 14147 Dale, Detroit, and Shirley Newton of 15800 Wisconsin, Detroit.

Shani J. Penn, 4340 Sturtevant. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Todd and Sylvia Penn of Detroit.

Walter E. Regalado-Ventura, 3114 Pennsylvania. Kalamazoo Gazette Business Award, a $5,000 scholarship based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Bennie and Maria Ford of Detroit.

Christal L. Williams, 15906 Collingham. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A freshman planning to major in marketing and Japanese, she is the daughter of Cheryl Watson of Detroit.

FRANKENMUTH-- Shelby A. Schiefer, 3 Rupprecht Court. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $25 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Daniel Schiefer of 315 Beyerlein, Frankenmuth, and Gail Manntz of 3 Rupprecht Court, Frankenmuth.

GAINES-- Jamie E. Olivo, 10482 Nichols Road. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A freshman planning to major in accountancy, she is the daughter of Jesus and Debra Olivo of Gaines.

GRAND RAPIDS-- James M. Peterson, 934 Ironwood Circle N.W. Arnold E. Schneider MBA Founders Award, a $500 scholarship awarded to the top graduating MBA student and named for Schneider, the founding dean of WMU's college of business. Pursuing a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in general business, he is the son of Melvin and Donna Peterson of 924 Rosalie N.W., Grand Rapids.

Satina M. Thrower, 520 Elliott S.E. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $200 award based on academic performance or financial need. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Roy Thrower of Grand Rapids and Lancile Thrower of 2203 Park Lake Lane, Norcross, Ga.

GRANDVILLE-- Brian P. Daily, 3259 31st S.W. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $50 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Patrick Daily of Belding and Beverly Daily of Grandville.

HIGHLAND PARK-- Shekitra S. Frazier, 37 Hill St. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $200 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Darwin and Peggy Beacham of Highland Park.

LaDonya K. Jones, 114 E. Grand. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $200 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in computer information systems, she is the daughter of Thirldean Jones of Highland Park.

JENISON-- Erin T. Klooster, 8240 Birchwood. Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association. A junior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Douglas and Pamela Klooster of Jenison.

KALAMAZOO-- Lisa F. Demey, 1410 Banbury Road, Apt. D. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Victor and Elsie Demey of 9513 Baker Highway, Jasper.

Martha E. Pacheco, 8086 S. 10th St. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $500 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. She is a senior majoring in advertising and Spanish.

Marlon L. Phillips, 3640 Middlebury Drive. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in computer information systems, he is the son of Richard and Emma Phillips of Kalamazoo.

Jessica R. Savage, 3307 Dearborn. Robert Welborn Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 award given to a student living in Welborn's original voting district and based on academic performance. A junior majoring in advertising, she is the daughter of Robert and Renate Savage of Kalamazoo.

Kathlene M. Scheffers, 5055 Queen Victoria Lane. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $300 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. She is a junior majoring in management.

Kwok Ying V. Tong, 4394 Hemmingway Drive. Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $225 award supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association. A senior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Kam Ming and Ching Ha Connie Tong of Hong Kong.

KENTWOOD-- Tony P. Gillissee, 1085 51st St. S.E. Phi Chi Theta Award, a $150 scholarship based on academic performance. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Paul and Jan Gillissee of Kentwood.

J. Michele Kaiser, 5533 Springwood Court. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $300 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Marv and Donna Kaiser of Kentwood.

LANSING-- Myla D. Edmond, 4301 Balmoral Drive. Chubb Group of Insurance Companies Scholarship, a $1,000 award based on academic performance. A sophomore planning to major in marketing and psychology, she is the daughter of Mark Edmond of 2451 Lancashire Apt. 2A, Ann Arbor, and Regina Danley of Lansing.

LAWRENCE-- Keshia McDaniel, 46991 40th Ave. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $200 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Debra McDaniel of Lawrence.

MANCHESTER-- Mary C. Lobbestael, 10730 Clinton Road. Old Kent Bank Scholarship, a $750 award given to outstanding students in the Haworth College of Business. A junior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of John and Lynda Lobbestael of Manchester.

MIDLAND-- Sean J. Handler, 4925 Christie Court. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in management, he is the son of Mark and Christine Handler of Midland.

Kimberly N. Heffel, 5411 Wallbridge. Art and Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade point average provided by Dr. Margaret M. Sanders, professor emerita of business information systems, and her late husband, Arthur. A junior majoring in marketing and Spanish, she is the daughter of James and Nancy Heffel of Midland.

MUSKEGON-- Jawania J. Anderson, 3070 Maple Grove #145. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $400 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore planning to major in accountancy and Spanish, she is the daughter of Mohammed Sagnia of 22 Crescent St., Muskegon Heights, and Precious Anderson of Muskegon.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP-- Amy E. Peardon of 47601 Province Court. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in marketing and Spanish, she is the daughter of John and Jan Peardon of Shelby Township.

ST. JOHNS-- Chad M. Simon, 1301 S. Oakland St. Art and Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade point average provided by Dr. Margaret M. ST. LOUIS-- Andrea A. Jones, 612 Central St. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $150 award based on academic performance or financial need. A senior majoring in management, she is the daughter of Cynthia Jones of St. Louis.

A junior majoring in integrated supply management, she is the daughter of Robert and Sofia Grzanka of Sterling Heights.

TROY-- Marlene A. Bryson, 4564 Chapel. Bernadine Branchaw Award, a $300 scholarship based on academic achievement given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor of business information systems. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Wil and Elaine Bryson of Troy.

Brian C. Grant, 6515 Tanglewood. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in integrated supply management, he is the son of Dennis and Carole Grant of Troy.

Philip W. Traugott, 4221 Marywood. Art and Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade point average provided by Dr. Margaret M. Sanders, professor emerita of business information systems, and her late husband, Arthur. A junior majoring in computer information systems, he is the son of Frederick and Carolyn Traugott of Troy.

WAYLAND-- Christina M. Carpenter, 1175 133rd Ave. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $50 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in integrated supply management, she is the daughter of Lyle and Bonnie Carpenter of 415 Mill St., Apt. 3, Wayland.

ROLLING PRAIRIE-- Jamie L. Strieter, 2801 N. 500 E. Haworth College of Business Achievement Award, a $50 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in integrated supply management, she is the daughter of Carl and Judy Strieter of Rolling Prairie.

EVANSTON-- Stacy B. Gardner, 1722 Madison St. General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. She is a freshman in the business administration curriculum.

RIVER GROVE-- Lisa M. Cali, 8138 W. O'Connor Drive. Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association.
