In our mechanical engineering programs, you will focus on the areas that best meet your goals, including concentrations in automotive or solid mechanics and structures.
I chose mechanical engineering because I wanted to develop an intuition for how to make my ideas tangible and feasible. Being a part of projects from conception to fruition brings me to life.

Our alumni
When you attend Western Michigan University to pursue a degree in mechanical and aerospace, you will join a growing group of alumni who are impacting our field and advancing many industries.
Alumni such as Bernie Iversen, B.S.E.’82, who is now retired from the TransDigm Group, a large public company that is a leading producer, designer and supplier of highly engineered products and systems for the aerospace and defense industry. Iversen was with TransDigm since its founding and held various management and engineering positions, each with an increasing level of responsibility. Iversen most recently served as TransDigm’s executive vice president of business development and mergers and acquisitions. During his term, TransDigm acquired over 40 proprietary aerospace businesses.
Iverson received a College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Alumni Excellence Award in 2024.
