Howard Street north of WMU closedJune 15, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Portions of Howard and Solon streets, Kendall Avenue and the Arboretum Parkway northwest of the main campus of Western Michigan University will be closed to all traffic from June 17 through no later than Aug. 28 for construction of two roundabouts and a new connecting road. During construction, traffic will be detoured along West Michigan Avenue, Drake Road and West Main Street (M43). Additionally, Kendall from Santos Drive to a point just north of Howard will be open in both directions to provide access to homes and apartments along Kendall. Access to all businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the construction. There will be no through traffic connecting West Main and Howard streets. Visitors to WMU from Grand Rapids and other points north may still exit U.S. 131 at West Main, drive east toward Kalamazoo, turn right (south) on Drake Road and left (east) on West Michigan. Travelers from the north and west may also use the Stadium Drive exit on U.S. 131 and proceed east to the WMU campus.
