
August doctoral recipients announced

KALAMAZOO -- Doctoral degrees from Western Michigan University
were awarded to 10 candidates at the end of summer session in
August.
Eight students received doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees
and two earned doctor of education (Ed.D.) degrees in four fields:
counseling psychology; educational leadership; psychology; and
sociology.
Barbara R. Bucklin of Traverse City, Mich., received
a Ph.D. degree in psychology. The title of her dissertation was
"The Supplemental Effects of Feedback on Productivity Under
Individual Incentives."
V. Yvonne Conner of Kalamazoo received an Ed.D. degree
in educational leadership. The title of her dissertation was
"Parental Involvement: Quantifying Parent Behavior and Its
Influence on a Child's Readiness to Learn." Conner earned
her bachelor's degree in applied science from WMU and her master's
degree in arts management from Nazareth College. She is a donor
relations officer at the Kalamazoo Foundation.
Angela R. Evans of Niles, Mich., received a Ph.D. degree
in sociology. The title of her dissertation was "The Victim
Rights Movement: A Social Constructionist Examination."
The daughter of Sharon and Larry Evans, also of Niles, Mich.,
she earned an associate's degree from Southwestern Michigan College
and her bachelor's and master's degrees from WMU. She is employed
at Southwestern Michigan College.
Susan L. Jensen of Grand Rapids, Mich., received a
Ph.D. degree in sociology. The title of her dissertation was
"Coping With Chronic Fatigue." The daughter of Jo Suttorp,
also of Grand Rapids, Mich., Jensen holds an associate's degree
in nursing, a bachelor of science degree in elementary education
and a master of science degree in nursing. She is an assistant
professor in the Kirchof School of Nursing at Grand Valley State
University.
Nanette M. Keiser of Kalamazoo received an Ed.D. degree
in educational leadership. The title of her dissertation was
"The Organizational Culture in Community Foundations."
The daughter of Charles K. and Suzanne M. Stevens of DeBary,
Fla., she holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and health
education and a master's degree in leadership and nonprofit management.
She is a senior research associate and an assistant professor
at WMU.
Lynn Nylund Lupini of Battle Creek, Mich., received
a Ph.D. degree in counseling psychology. The title of her dissertation
was "Counselor-Client Value Similarity and Dissimilarity,
the Working Alliance and Counseling Outcome." The daughter
of Daniel and Colleen Nylund of Iron Mountain, Mich., she earned
her bachelor's and master's degrees from Michigan State University.
Lupini is a psychologist at Psychological Consultants in Battle
Creek, Mich.
Lori Lynn McNeil of Niles, Mich., received a Ph.D.
degree in sociology. The title of her dissertation was "Childcare
and Experiential Knowledge: Expanding Definitions of Childcare."
Dwayne Mark Munneke of Lansing, Mich., received a Ph.D.
degree in psychology. The title of his dissertation was "A
Preliminary Investigation of the Acceptability and Effectiveness
of a Computer-Based Adjunct Therapist Delivered Parent Training
for Child Non-Compliance."
Peter Randall Stevenson of Kalamazoo received a Ph.D.
degree in sociology. The title of his dissertation was "An
Examination of Voir Dire from an Interactionist Perspective.
Martin Urbina of Ozona, Texas, earned his Ph.D. degree
in sociology. The title of his dissertation was "Capital
Punishment: A New Perspective on Race and Ethnic Differences
in Punishment and Death Sentence Outcomes." The son of Salvador
Urbina and Felipa Guevara of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuanto,
Mexico, he earned his bachelor's degree from Sul Ross State University
and his master's degree from New Mexico State University. He
is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
