Golf team wins first tournament titleOct. 25, 2000 LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- The Western Michigan University women's golf team finished first at the UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic in St. Louis. The Broncos shot a 318 in the second round, good for a two-day total of 635. Creighton University finished one stroke back at 636, while host Missouri- Kansas City finished third at 644. The victory is the first for the Broncos in the three-year history of the golf program. The 635 total is a 36-hole scoring record for WMU, breaking the record set in the Bowling Green Falcon Invitational on Sept. 23-24, 2000. Leading the way for the Broncos was sophomore Katie Yoder, who earned medalist honors after shooting a 75 today for a two-day total of 151. Yoder finished four strokes clear of the rest of the field. She is the first Bronco medalist in program history, and tied the 36-hole individual total set by Erika Bieniek last year. Freshman Enid Gage finished eighth at 160 after carding an 81 today, while Bieniek shot 80-81 to finish in a tie for ninth. Sophomore Brooke Hulsbrink ended up at 163 (82-81), while classmate Nicole Chamberlin totalled 168 (83-85). Competing as an individual, sophomore Megan Dunigan shot 80-82 to tie for 11th.
