Men's basketball team in MAC tournament game at Ohio

KALAMAZOO -- WMU's men's basketball team (10-17 overall, 6-12 MAC) will play a first-round contest in the MAC tournament at Ohio University, in Athens, on Wednesday, March 1, beginning at 7 p.m.

Ohio finished the regular season with an 11-7 record in the Mid-American Conference and is the No. 6 seed in the tournament. WMU is seeded No. 11. All 13 teams in the conference participate in the tournament.

Against conference opponents, the Broncos were 5-4 at home, and 1-8 on the road. Their only road victory of the season was a 78-74 overtime thriller on Jan. 22 at Ohio.

MAC tournament first-round contests, March 1:

No. 4 Akron (11-7) hosts No. 13 Central Michigan (2-16)
No. 5 Marshall (11-7) hosts No. 12 Buffalo (3-15)
No. 6 Ohio (11-7) hosts No. 11 WMU (6-12)
No. 7 Toledo (11-7) hosts No. 10 Northern Illinois (7-11)
No. 8 Eastern Michigan (9-9) hosts No. 9 Miami (8-10)

The top three seeds in the tournament, No. 1 seed Bowling Green, No. 2 Ball State, and No. 3 Kent, each have a first-round bye. Winners of the first-round contests advance to the quarterfinals, Sunday, March 5, at Gund Arena in Cleveland.

Bronco men's basketball can be heard on the Bronco Radio Network (Flagship station WFAT-96.5 FM Kalamazoo), and via broadcast.com on the Bronco Web site <www.wmubroncos.com>.

Following consecutive home victories over Central Michigan and Northern Illinois, the Broncos were 6-9 in the MAC, with an opportunity to finish .500 in the conference. WMU lost the final three games of the regular season, at Toledo, at Eastern Michigan, and at home versus Ball State (91-82) on Saturday (Feb. 26) to finish 6-12 in the conference.
