Multiple career fairs slated for early fall at WMU

Photo of a student and employer at a WMU career fair.KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University will be the site for four upcoming career-related events that are open to the public but aimed at the University's students and recent alumni.

The first fair, the Engineering Expo, is being held on the Parkview Campus, which is located near the intersection of Parkview Avenue and Drake Road in Kalamazoo. It is being co-hosted by Career and Student Employment Services and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at WMU.

The remaining three fairs are all business related and take place on the Main Campus. They are being hosted by the Zhang Career Center, which is housed in Schneider Hall, home of the Haworth College of Business.

Scheduled fairs

• The Engineering Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the main lobby of Floyd Hall on the Parkview Campus. This event attracts more than 100 employers from around the nation to promote their organizations as well as recruit for internships and full- and part-time positions. It is being co-sponsored by Domtar and Humphrey Products. All attendees must check in on-site to take part in the event. Integrated Supply Management Career Night will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Bernhard Center's East Ballroom on the Main Campus. This is a night of networking for students pursuing internships and entry-level positions in supply chain management. It features employer presentations as well as opportunities to network with company representatives and is being sponsored by General Motors. Marketing, Food/Sales Marketing Career Night will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Fetzer Center on the Main Campus. This event is a networking evening for students pursuing internships and entry-level positions in marketing, with a focus on careers in food marketing, marketing and sales. It involves a presentation by a keynote speaker followed by networking and is being sponsored by Meijer. Business Career Day will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Bernhard Center's East Ballroom on the Main Campus. Those planning to attend the early fall career fairs should wear professional business attire and bring copies of their resumes. Details about WMU's largest public career fair, the annual winter Career Fair, will be released closer to its Thursday, Feb. 8, event date.

WMU students are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming fairs by attending pre-fair events designed solely for them and taking advantage of such career services as resume critiquing, walk-in advising and practice interview days.
