Campus engineer George Wilson dies

George L. Wilson

George L. Wilson, who recently retired from his position as electrical engineering manager in Facilities Management, died Oct. 22. He was 63.

A WMU employee for more than 26 years, Wilson began his career at WMU in 1988 as a mechanical engineer in the Campus Engineering Department. Prior to working at WMU, he was a nuclear reactor systems engineer for Newport News Shipbuilding Co. for 15 years and also did consulting in the area of mechanical and fire protection engineering.

Wilson earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1973, and he earned professional engineer certification in Michigan.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Langeland Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo. Visitation will be held just before the service, starting at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Autism Speaks to help fund research on autism. Donations to Autism Speaks may be made online or mailed to 1060 State Road, Princeton, NJ 08540.
