Julie M. Christensen, a former Western Michigan University staff member, died Wednesday, Aug. 15. She was 54.
Christensen, of Kalamazoo, was a secretary and office associate at WMU for 18 years. When she left the University in August 2010, she had been serving for the past four years as an office associate in the Department of Occupational Therapy.
Prior to that, Christensen had held similar positions in Human Resources and in the Sindecuse Health Center, College of Health and Human Services, and annual giving unit of the Development Office.
The southwest Michigan native had been a Kalamazoo-area resident most of her life. She loved animals and was a Master Gardener who enjoyed working in her garden and sharing her green thumb with others by volunteering in the local community.

Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the memorial service, which is set for Monday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Oshtemo, Mich.
