Sustainability open house offers fun, educational activities

Event Sunday, April 15, includes bike tours, music, food and more.

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University will celebrate the end of the semester with a sustainability-themed open house from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Gibbs House.

Sponsored by WMU's Office for Sustainability in collaboration with Students for a Sustainable Earth and the Student Garden Organization, the event is open to the public free of charge. It will feature music, food and a variety of activities and skill-sharing workshops, including:

  • Bike rides
  • Campus and community organization presentations
  • House tours and guided nature walks in Asylum Lake
  • Sustainable craft-making
  • Gardening and vermi-composting demonstrations
  • Art exhibitions

The the Gibbs House is located at 4503 Parkview Ave. in Kalamazoo. Transportation from main campus will be provided. Interested parties should RSVP to and join the Facebook event page: SustainabiliBASH. There also will be a group bike tour from campus to the Gibbs House meeting at 11:30 a.m. at the Campus Flagpoles next to the Lee Honors College at the center of WMU's West Campus.
