Western Michigan University Senior Day Services is an adult day program designed to serve individuals with cognitive or functional impairments that need special assistance or supervision during the day. We offer organized daily activities in a community setting. Our approach to adult day programming is a combination of social interaction and rehabilitative activities that encourage using the individuals’ strengths to improve health. Our safe and supportive environment provides ongoing learning and positive growth experiences for older adults and seniors. We strive to give families an affordable alternative to in-home health aide services. We care for those who:

  • Have Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia
  • Have developmental disabilities or cognitive impairments
  • Are mentally ill
  • Have chronic illness/disease
  • Are physically declining
  • Are veterans
  • Are looking for daily socialization

The Senior Day Services day program is designed to:

  • Increase social interactions among seniors
  • Provide ongoing learning and positive growth experiences for seniors
  • Prevent, delay onset or slow the effects of age-related problems
  • Offer respite to caregivers who need time to meet their own needs

Services that support well-being

  • A structured program of activities designed to enhance physical and cognitive function
  • Dignified assistance with personal care and activities of daily living
  • Health monitoring by a registered nurse
  • Rehabilitation activities supervised by an occupational therapist
  • Social services and care management
  • Staffed by certified dementia practitioners and trained dementia care program assistants
  • Speech therapy, vision assessments, physical therapy, occupational therapy services referred
  • Nutritious lunch and snacks
