KALAMAZOO--Members of the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved a 3.5 percent increase in the Western View rental rates for the 2012-13 academic year. The newest on-campus residential complex, Western View offers single-bedroom housing contracts primarily to upper-level and graduate students.

The rate change means that a student will pay an additional $14-$24 per month at Western View, depending on the floor plan chosen. The new monthly base rates will range from $404 per person for a four-bedroom floor plan, to $699 for a one-bedroom unit.

Western View offers one-, two-, three- or four-bedroom options, with furnishings and expanded units available for an additional cost. Rates include Bronco Fix-it maintenance service, parking, waste removal, recycling service, basic cable television and security features. Flexible meal plan options are also available to residents through WMU Dining Services.

The newly constructed Western View opened as scheduled in August, with a capacity of 330 students. The four-building complex with 144 units is currently at 100 percent occupancy for 2011-12, but interested students can apply online now to live at Western View for 2012-13.
