KALAMAZOO--Several campus roads and parking areas at Western Michigan University will be closed for varying periods the morning of homecoming Saturday, Oct. 8, to accommodate the 13th annual running of the Homecoming Campus Classic 1K and 5K races.

"We are reminding the campus community now of the annual road closings to avoid possible conflicts later with other events," says Thom Myers in university relations, which organizes the event.

West Michigan Avenue in front of the Bernhard Center and the parking lots along that section of West Michigan will be closed to all traffic from 6 to 11 a.m., including parking areas in front of the Oaklands, Henry Hall, Seibert Administration Building and Kanley Chapel.

Other affected roads and lots will be closed for about one hour at varying times between 8 and 10 a.m. during the actual running of the 1K and 5K events.

Access will be limited to nearly every building on the central West Campus during the 5K race. Roads and lots will be opened to traffic as soon as the last runners and walkers have cleared the adjacent parts of the race route.

Questions about the courses and road closings may be referred to Thom Myers at thom.myers@wmich.edu or (269) 387-8710.

Information about the 2011 Homecoming Campus Classic is available at wmich.edu/race, including race registration, signing up as a race volunteer and maps for both the 1K and 5K events.
