Film society brings 'Mao's Last Dancer' to campusDec. 3, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Kalamazoo Film Society presents "Mao's Last Dancer," based on the best-selling autobiography of Li Cunxin, Friday through Sunday, Dec. 10-12, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University. Show times are 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday; 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30, 5 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $5. Starring Chi Cao, Kyle MacLachlan, Amanda Schull, Bruce Greenwood and Joan Chen, "Mao's Last Dancer" is the inspiring story of Li Cunxin and his journey from a poor upbringing in rural China to international stardom as a world-class ballet dancer. It tells a moving story about the quest for freedom and the courage it takes to make life-changing decisions. The film compellingly captures the struggles, sacrifices and triumphs, as well as the intoxicating effects of first love and celebrity amid the pain of exile. Directed by Bruce Beresford with a screenplay by Jan Sarki, the 2009 film is shown in English and Mandarin with English subtitles. It has a run time of 117 minutes and is rated PG for adult language, sensuality and smoking.
