Nov. 8, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Members of the Western Michigan University community are invited to join President John M. Dunn as he marks the end of another successful campus United Way campaign.

The celebration will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Room 210 of the Bernhard Center. Dunn will acknowledge campaign organizers and contributors, and light refreshments will be served. A grand-prize drawing will take place for those who have increased their gift by $50 since last year. Prizes include:

  • Pair of seats in the President's Box for the last home football game
  • Two $50 gift certificates for Millenium Restaurant Group (Martell's, Epic Bistro, The Union, Fieldstone Grill)
  • Overnight stay at the Oaklands and two tickets to the Gold Company's 33rd anniversary concert

WMU still has not surpassed its $275,000 goal. According to campaign directors, a total of $259,600 in gifts and pledges has been received from 1,450 WMU donors.

"I have great confidence in the people of this University," says Dr. Joe Reish, dean of University Libraries and chair of the campus United Way campaign. "I remain optimistic that we will reach our goal, and that we will have a reason to celebrate when we gather on the 18th."

Although this year's campaign will officially end Friday, Nov. 12, the president's office will continue to collect donations of any amount. Employees and retirees who have not already turned in their pledge cards are encouraged to do so now. For information on making a gift, contact wmu-united-way@wmich.edu.

WMU's campus drive is part of the Greater Kalamazoo United Way's $9.05 million overall campaign. Visit Greater Kalamazoo United Way online to learn more about the organization's 40 local agencies and hear stories from people whose lives have been changed by the help they received from United Way.
