April 12, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's student automotive engineering organization will be honored for "exemplary performance" later this month during the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress and Exhibition, an international event held annually in Detroit.

The WMU SAE Student Chapter is the Class 3 recipient of the SAE/Honeywell 2009 Outstanding Collegiate Branch Award by SAE International. The honor recognizes the organization in the areas of technical meetings, networking opportunities, Collegiate Design SeriesTM competitions, membership and recruitment, and community service programs such as "A World in Motion."

A framed certificate and $600 award will be presented Tuesday, April 13, during the 2010 SAE World Congress.

The WMU SAE Student Chapter provides opportunities for students interested in automotive engineering to apply their knowledge and gain practical skills through Formula SAE and Baja SAE Collegiate Design projects. Students also have opportunities to network with members in the industry while attending lectures and various social events with students of similar interests.
