Students collecting items for Haiti relief

Jan. 22, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University students are collecting personal care items and monetary donations for earthquake victims in Haiti. Donations may be made between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays until Feb. 11 at the Wesley Foundation on WMU's main campus.

Funds will be channeled through the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and 100 percent of the money donated will go to relief efforts--the United Methodist Church is absorbing the administrative costs. Checks should be made payable to UMCOR Haiti Relief.

WMU Campus Ministry organized the Wesley Foundation relief effort, which also is accepting donations of personal care items to build kits that include:

  • one hand towel
  • one washcloth
  • one large comb
  • one nail file or fingernail clippers
  • one bath-size bar of soap
  • one adult toothbrush
  • six adhesive plastic-strip sterile bandages
  • $1 to purchase toothpaste

The Wesley Foundation is located at the center of WMU's main campus, next to the Lee Honors College.
