William E. "Wally" Post

William E. "Wally" Post, a Western Michigan University staff member and longtime instructor, died May 12 in Kalamazoo.

Post had been working full time as a database specialist in the Development Office since 2005 and teaching part time in the Department of Sociology since 1993. In addition, he was a research and computer consultant for the sociology department from 1995 to 2005, during which time he worked extensively with the department's Kercher Center for Social Research and the Michigan Alcohol and other Drugs School Survey project.

A Portage, Mich. resident, Post also ran his own market and social science research company, and served as research director for the WJSchroer Co. in Battle Creek, Mich., a marketing consulting and research firm.

Post earned an associate degree from Glen Oaks Community College in 1990, and bachelor's and master's degrees from WMU in 1991 and 1995, respectively. At the time of his death, he was enrolled in WMU's doctoral program in sociology and had completed all of the program requirements except the dissertation.

Burial took place May 16.
