Sports camps for visually impaired athletes

KALAMAZOO--Sports camps for athletes with visual impairments continue at Western Michigan University this week, culminating Saturday, May 9, in the Michigan State Games Track Meet.

The camps began Sunday afternoon with the 22nd Junior Sports Education Camp for athletes aged 10-12 before giving way to the 22nd Senior Sports Education Camp, which starts Wednesday, for those aged 13-16. Indoor events, including wrestling, swimming and goalball, take place in the WMU Student Recreation Center, while track and field competition will be at Kanley Track.

The Michigan State Games competition in goalball, swimming, wrestling and other indoor events is on Friday, while events included in the Michigan State Games Track Meet run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the track.

The camps are sponsored by the WMU Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies and the Michigan Blind Athletic Association.
