Feminist author explores the F-word

March 20, 2009

KALAMAZOO--Feminist writer and speaker Jessica Valenti will lecture on "The F-Word" Thursday, March 26, on the campus of Western Michigan University. The free and open event will be from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fetzer Center and is sponsored by the Womyn's Equality student organization.

Valenti, the author of two books and founder of the feminist blog and Web site feministing.com, will speak and answer questions on her theory that, "Feminism isn't dead. It just isn't very cool anymore," she says.

She has a master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies from Rutgers University and has worked with organizations such as NARAL Pro-Choice America, Legal Momentum, Planned Parenthood, the Women's Environment and Development Organization and Ms. magazine. She is also a co-founder of the REAL hot 100, a campaign to highlight the important work that young women are doing across the country. In April 2007, she was named one of ELLE magazine's IntELLEgentsia.
