Patricia Barber ensemble performs in Dalton

KALAMAZOO--Jazz pianist and vocalist Patricia Barber will perform with her band at 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University. General admission tickets are $15 and $5 for students, and will be available at the door.

Barber will perform from her latest CD, "The Cole Porter Mix," which celebrates the music and lyrics of Cole Porter and includes three new originals by Barber. Her performance is the opening concert of the annual Gold Company Vocal Jazz Festival, which continues through Saturday. Seating for the concert will be limited and patrons are encouraged to arrive early.

Also during her visit to WMU, Barber will offer a master class Thursday, March 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Dalton Center Lecture Hall. The class is free and open to the public.

Barber, who lives in Chicago, previously performed in Kalamazoo at the 2002 Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival.
