Haenicke memorial fund established

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University has established a memorial fund to honor longtime president Dr. Diether H. Haenicke, who died Feb. 15 at age 73.

Gifts to the Diether H. Haenicke Memorial Fund will support international studies and other areas of personal interest to President Haenicke, whose family will determine later specifically how the funds will be used.

Memorial gifts may be made online using a credit card, or by check payable to WMU Foundation and mailed to Diether Haenicke Memorial Fund, WMU Foundation, Kalamazoo MI 49008-5403.

At the suggestion the Haenicke family, memorial gifts also may be made to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.

Haenicke, president emeritus and distinguished professor, served as the University's fifth president from 1985 to 1998, and also served one year as interim president in 2006-07 during the national search that brought current president Dr. John M. Dunn to Kalamazoo.

A memorial service for President Emeritus Diether H. Haenicke is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in Miller Auditorium on the WMU main campus.
