Students reprise "Vagina Monologues" this weekend

Feb. 19, 2008

KALAMAZOO--The 10th annual student performances of Eve Ensler's critically acclaimed "The Vagina Monologues" will be staged this weekend in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

Shows begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, and at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. General admission is $10 and $5 for students.

WMU student organization Womyn's Equality is again sponsoring the performances. Each year near Valentine's Day, thousands of women around the world perform "The Vagina Monologues" on behalf of the V-Day campaign, which calls for an end to violence against women and girls. Womyn's Equality will donate 10 percent of its profits from the show to the campaign.

"We have a great cast of young women who are very passionate about this cause," says show director Kimberly Pagan.

"The Vagina Monologues" was nominated for Drama Desk and Helen Hayes awards and won an Obie Award in 1997.

More information about V-Day is available on the Web at <www.vday.org>.
