E-learning restored, main e-mail service still unavailable

Aug. 13, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's main e-mail system (ECS mail) remains offline, but is expected to be restored by Tuesday morning, Aug. 14. WMU's e-learning service, previously known as WebCT Vista, was unavailable Sunday and early Monday, but had been restored as of 4 p.m. Monday.

Many University computer services remained down following scheduled maintenance and upgrades Sunday morning. A series of unforeseen software and hardware problems contributed to the difficulty in restoring systems, according to WMU information technology officials.

By early Monday morning, most services accessed through GoWMU, the University's secure intranet portal; nearly all public Web pages; and Groupwise e-mail were available.

Further updates will be posted on the WMU home page, in WMU News and in GoWMU Campus Announcements. Please check those locations first. If you still have questions, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@wmich.edu or (269) 387-HELP (387-4357).
