Trustees to discuss tuition, budget recommendations

June 6, 2007

KALAMAZOO--Fall tuition and fees, tuition rates for branch campuses and a budget for the 2007-08 fiscal year are among items on the agenda when the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees meets Thursday, June 7.

During a formal public session set to start at 11:15 a.m. in Room 157 of the Bernhard Center, trustees will hear and discuss a tuition and fee proposal for on-campus courses. They are expected to table the recommendation, postponing final action on the issue until the board's July meeting. The proposal will be for a tuition and fee schedule due to take effect with the start of the fall 2007 semester.

Also at the meeting, the board is expected to vote on a recommendation to revise tuition rates for courses offered at off-campus locations through WMU's Extended University Programs. In addition, the board will consider adoption of a 2007-08 general fund estimated budget.

Trustees also will hear reports on gifts and grants received through April, and they will consider a number of personnel items brought for the board's consideration. In addition trustees will consider several academic proposals, including a new minor in Arabic and a master's degree in computational mathematics as well as a revision of the University policy on centers and institutes and the establishment of a new engineering center.
