Grand Rapids career center opens Thursday

March 5, 2007

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--Western Michigan University in Grand Rapids at the Graduate Center--Downtown will launch its Center for Career Services and Human Resources Development with an open house and tour, Thursday, March 8, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The new career center provides individually tailored self-assessment, career research and job search services to Grand Rapids residents, while providing WMU graduate students with enhanced pre-graduation clinical experiences as well as expanded professional opportunities after graduation.

Located at 200 Ionia SW in downtown Grand Rapids, the career center is the product of a 2006 WMU President's Innovation Fund grant for which WMU-Grand Rapids received $212,304 for the development of the center.

Open house and clinic tour

In addition to the career center opening, practicing counselors and prospective students for the counselor education and counseling psychology program are invited to attend an open house and clinic tour at the same location, also on March 8.

The CECP program in Grand Rapids offers an on-site, state-of-the-art psychology-training clinic called the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. The facility provides practical training opportunities for graduate students by offering low-cost mental health services to residents of Southwest Michigan. In addition, through curricular experience, this program leads graduating students to professional licensure.
