Trustees approve priorities for next president

Dec. 27, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University trustees approved a resolution Dec. 15 identifying the characteristics and qualifications WMU is looking for in its next president.

The resolution, which reflects input gathered from members of both the University and Kalamazoo communities, was introduced by Trustee Larry Tolbert, who is vice chair of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee. The resolution includes a list of institutional priorities for the new president to tackle: refocusing the University's sense of mission, particularly regarding academic quality and research support; strengthening undergraduate, graduate and international student retention and recruitment; building greater trust with on- as well as off-campus constituents; working to increase state financial support; providing sound financial planning; and expanding regional collaborative and economic development efforts.

Details of the characteristics and qualifications sought are available on the Web site at www.wmich.edu/president/search.
