Wheelchair basketball comes to University Arena

Sept. 8, 2006

KALAMAZOO--The Kentwood Rollers and the Fort Wayne Bandits of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association will play in University Arena at Western Michigan University beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The contest, which is free and open to the public, helps mark the 25th anniversary of Kalamazoo's Disability Resource Center. Also sponsoring the event are WMU's Disabled Student Resources and Services and University Recreation.

Sponsored by Kentwood (Mich.) Parks and Recreation, the Rollers joined the NWBA Division III in 1995 and have played in single games and tournaments throughout the United States and Canada. The Fort Wayne Bandits are ranked second in the nation by the NWBA and are the only adult NWBA-sanctioned team in Northeastern Indiana.

WMU students and others who would like to volunteer to help with this event should contact the Disability Resource Center at (269) 345-1516. More information about the center is available at www.drccil.org.
