WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News Waldo birthday party slated for TuesdayJune 12, 2006 KALAMAZOO--Members of the Western Michigan University community will celebrate the 142nd anniversary of the birth of founding president Dwight B. Waldo, Tuesday, June 13, on the grounds of WMU's East Campus outside historic East Hall. The event, which is set for 4 to 6 p.m., is being sponsored by the Friends of Historic East Campus and is intended as a celebration of WMU's contributions to higher education. Both the university's main library and football stadium are named in his honor. He was born in Arcade, N.Y., June 13, 1864, in the final year of the American Civil War and was noted for his scholarship on the life of Abraham Lincoln. He died Oct. 29, 1939, at age 75.
