Flags at half-staff for Michigan war casualties

KALAMAZOO--By order of Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm, U.S. flags on all campuses of Western Michigan University and throughout the state of Michigan will be lowered Friday, June 9, and again Monday, June 12, in honor of two Michigan servicemen who lost their lives while on active duty in Iraq.

All flags will be lowered for one day, Friday, June 9, to honor Army Specialist Brock L. Bucklin of Caledonia. Bucklin, age 28, died May 31 from a non-combat related cause while serving in Balad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Monday, June 12, flags will be at half-staff to honor Army Corporal Alexander J. Kolasa of White Lake. Kolasa, age 22, died May 31 from a non-combat related cause while serving in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 704th Main Support Battalion, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
