"Transamerica" makes area debut at Little Theatre

April 21, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Western Film Society presents the Kalamazoo-area debut of "Transamerica," starring Felicity Huffman in her Academy Award-nominated role, Friday through Sunday, April 28-30, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University.

Showtimes are Friday and Saturday, 7 and 9:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 and 5 p.m. General admission is $5 and $3 for students. The 2005 release is rated R.

As written and directed by Duncan Tucker, "Transamerica" stars Huffman in the role of a male-to-female transsexual named Sabrina "Bree" Osbourne (formerly Stanley). While preparing herself for the final round of gender reassignment surgery, Bree receives the news of an imprisoned son she unknowingly fathered when she was man. Assuming the false guise of a Christian missionary, Bree bails her son out for a cross-country road trip full of discoveries for them both. Huffman's performance earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Street on Western Michigan University's East Campus. There is free off-street parking behind the theatre. For more information, call the movie line at (269) 387-8221 or visit Western Film Society at www.rso.wmich.edu/wfs.
