Women's Chorus gives final concert of season

April 3, 2006

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's Women's Chorus will give its final performance of 2005-06 at 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 7, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The concert is free of charge and the public is welcome.

The concert opens with Egil Hovland's hauntingly beautiful piece "Laudate Dominum" followed by "Ave Maris Stella," a contemporary unpublished piece by Chan Ka Nin, and "Vere Languores Nostros" by Antonio Lotti. Michael Hennagin's "Three Emily Dickinson Songs" is a lovely set of songs sprinkled with dissonance that captures the listener's attention. The group will also perform Eleanor Daley's "Rise Up My Love" and Paul Liljestrand's "Songs for Spring." The concert will close with a rhythmic piece, "Gate Gate," a setting of a Buddist mantra by Brian Tate.
