Jennifer Holliday joins KSO Pops at Miller

KALAMAZOO--Tony and Grammy Award-winning artist Jennifer Holliday performs with the KSO Pops at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 4 in Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University.

Holliday is an R&B and dance music singer and actress who gained fame when she won the 1982 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Effie White in the Broadway production of "Dreamgirls." Since then, she's had a number of hits songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and various other charts, including "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going," "No Frills Love" and "Think It Over."

In 2004, Holliday was featured during the Boston Pops Independence Day concert, and she regularly performs and records with the Cincinnati Pops. She earned a doctor of music degree from the Berklee School of Music in Boston in 1999.

Also joining the KSO Pops March 4 will be the Northside Association for Educational Advancement GospelFest Choir and their director, Roland Sunkins. The choir is a multiethnic community choir organized for this event.
