WMU HOME > ABOUT WMU > WMU NEWS WMU bids farewell to Bernhard and WienerJune 16, 2005 KALAMAZOO--A retirement and farewell celebration will be held Monday, June 27, to honor Dr. Margaret Bernhard, interim vice provost for Extended University Programs, and Dr. William Weiner, dean of the Graduate College. The event is set for 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Gilmore Theatre Complex. The couple is leaving Western Michigan University for Wisconsin, where Wiener has accepted a position at Marquette University in Milwaukee as vice provost for research and dean of the Graduate School. Bernhard, who has served in her current post since July 2004, is resigning after 23 years at WMU in a variety of faculty and staff positions. She has been with EUP since 1997. She intends to work in development or nonprofit outreach programs at Marquette. Wiener is retiring from WMU, effective July 8. He came to the university in 1986 as chair of what is now the Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies. He has been dean of the Graduate College since 2002.
