Jazz faculty does tribute to '50s Hard Bop quintet

KALAMAZOO--WMU music faculty members Keith Hall and Scott Cowan and the Western Jazz Quartet present a "Tribute to the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet" Friday, Oct. 15, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

Tickets for the concert are $10 and are available through the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office at (269) 387-2300 or toll free (800) 228-9858. Tickets for students and senior citizens are $5.

The 50th anniversary of the inception of the Brown-Roach Quintet, an important 1950s Hard Bop ensemble, will be celebrated with performances of original compositions by Brown, Roach and Tadd Dameron, among others. The music of Brown and Roach continues to stand the test of time as it influences and inspires musicians and fans alike. In addition to Hall and Cowan, the concert will include performances by Tom Knific, Trent Kynaston and Steve Zegree, all members of the jazz faculty in the WMU School of Music.
