Body found Sunday at Asylum Lake Preserve

May 3, 2004

KALAMAZOO--The discovery last night of the body of a white female on a nature preserve owned by Western Michigan University has triggered an investigation by the WMU Department of Public Safety.

Two area residents walking near Asylum Lake at about 5 p.m. Sunday, May 2, discovered the body on the shoreline. WMU, city and county authorities were called to the scene and the body was removed for examination by the medical examiner.

When additional information about the police investigation is available, the University will release those details to area media.

The Asylum Lake preserve is a 274-acre natural area located three miles southwest of WMU's main campus at the intersection of Drake Road and Parkview Avenue. The area is dedicated to passive recreational activities and has long been used by the entire community for such activities as hiking and wildlife observation.
