Multiple polling places open for WSA elections this week

March 15, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Elections for Western Student Association president, vice president and student senate are being held through Thursday at multiple locations on the Kalamazoo campuses of Western Michigan University.

Polling places include the Fountain Plaza at Miller Auditorium, Student Recreation Center turnstiles, campus flagpoles, Schneider Hall circle drive and Parkview Campus Information Center. Polling will be open today through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To accommodate students attending tonight's (March 15) Centennial Concert with Phantom Planet in Miller Auditorium, the polling station at Fountain Plaza will remain open until 8 p.m., according to Stacy Smith, chair of the WSA Election Control Board.

"I am in desperate need of volunteers to help oversee polling locations," says Smith. Those interested in helping can contact Smith at <wsaelection2004@yahoo.com> or through the student senate office at 387-2194.

"WSA is the WMU student government and the voice for every student," says Smith. "We are the liaison [between students and] WMU's administration and city officials. We provide such services as [Student Activities Fee] fund distribution, Pick A Prof, free legal aid and lobbying efforts with local government and the state Legislature."

There are two tickets for WSA president and vice president and several senate seats up for election. More information on the candidates and the election is available on the WSA Web pages at <www.wsa.wmich.edu/election.html>.
