Women's Chorus presents 'A Celebration of Song'March 28, 2004 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's Women's Chorus presents a free concert titled "A Celebration of Song" Friday , April 2, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The April 2 concert opens with Norman Dello Joio's "A Jubilant Song." Also featured will be "Four Mystical Songs" by a contemporary Canadian composer, Leslie Uyeda, and harpist Lorraine Alberts will accompany the chorus on "Hymns from the Rig-Veda" by Gustav Holst. The first set of songs closes with a spiritual, "Hold On," arranged by Clifton Noble, Jr. The second half of the concert is a celebration of women through song. This set features "Queen Jane," "Punching the Dough," "March of the Women" and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." The concert closes with "Never Sit Down," a contemporary adaptation of the traditional song "Sit Down, Sister," arranged by Gwyneth Walker.
