Accounting department announces scholarship recipients

KALAMAZOO -- Nineteen students (listed below) were recently awarded scholarships by the Department of Accountancy in the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University. Awarded for the 2000-01 academic year, the scholarships recognize students for their academic excellence and extracurricular participation in the department's activities.

Andrea Bailer, 2399 Kings Cross, East Lansing, Mich., was honored with a Department of Accountancy scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance. A junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of Ed Bailer of Stockbridge, Mich., and Jan Engstrom of East Lansing.

Rebecca Lynn Beekman, 7869 Jonagold, Grand Rapids, Mich., received the BDO Seidmann Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A senior majoring in accountancy and business management, she is the daughter of Tim Beekman of Mishawaka, Ind., and Betty Wells of Grand Rapids.

Raymund Bissell, 7156 Burkley Road, Vassar, Mich., was honored with a Department of Accountancy scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Doug and Louise Bissell of Vassar.

Janell Bolen, 505 Bennington, East Tawas, Mich., received the Deloitte & Touche Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of Jerry and Janet Bolen of East Tawas.

Todd P. Cook, 3421 N. Hubbardston Road, Pewamo, Mich., received the Marshall & Poe Scholarship, a monetary award given to outstanding accountancy majors with a minor in business information systems. A member of the Lee Honors College, he is a junior and the son of Perry and Diane Cook of Pewamo.

Casey Clifford Dick, 4824 Erie Drive, Buchanan, Mich., was honored with the Ernst and Young Award, a monetary award given to the highest standing senior with an accountancy major. A member of the Lee Honors College, he is the son of John and Bobbetta Dick of Buchanan.

Patricia Garthe, 2369 Crestview Drive, Wyoming, Mich., was honored with a Department of Accountancy scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance. A junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of Donald and Frances Garthe of Wyoming.

Candice Kelly-Hall, 7664 Rivard #1, Warren, Mich., was honored with a Department of Accountancy scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance. A junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of Shawn Hall of Warren.

Jennifer Lehoczky, 15678 Sussex, Livonia, Mich., was honored with the David Rozelle Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Kenneth and Norma Jean Lehoczy of Livonia.

Elena M. Mellen, 1480 E. Mill St., Hastings, Mich., received the Plante & Moran Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A senior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of James and Marcia Mellen of Hastings.

Patrick J. Murtha Jr., 7282 E. Ronrick, Frankenmuth, Mich., received the Yeo & Yeo Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A senior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, he is the son of Patrick and Kathleen Murtha of Frankenmuth.

Shane Alan Rodgers, 15543 M-60, Jones, Mich., was honored with the Sandy Rozelle Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Tom and Sandy Rodgers of Jones.

Maria V. Rodriguez, 59509 41st St., Paw Paw, Mich., received the Ernst and Young Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A senior with a major in accountancy and Spanish, she is the daughter of Dionisia Rodriguez of Paw Paw.

Shehzad Sami, Messllah Towers Apt 332, Kuwait, was honored with the William Maze, Jr. Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment and active membership in Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting honor society. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Mohammad and Shahila Shaukat Sami.

Sara K. Schoeneman, 42672 Hanford, Canton, Mich., received the Arthur Andersen Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic achievements. A senior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of Dick and Mary Jane Schoeneman of Canton.

Kelly Souter, 5005 Stony Creek, Comstock Park, Mich., was honored with a Department of Accountancy scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Robert Souter of Sparta, Mich., and Terri Gorton of Comstock Park.

John L. Thelen, 11121 Jason Road, Fowler, Mich., was honored with a Department of Accountancy scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance. A junior with a major in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors College, he is the son of Steven and Mary Lou Thelen of Fowler.

Walter Regaldo-Ventura, 3114 Pennsylvania, Detroit, received the Crowe Chizek Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic accomplishment. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Bennie and Maria Ford of Detroit.

Jodi Winter, 1305 N Spring St. #65, Birch Run, Mich., received the Institute of Management Accountants Scholarship, a monetary award based on academic performance and membership in the IMA student chapter. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of William Winter Jr. of Montrose, Mich., and Christine Tucholski of Gladwin, Mich.
