Forty-seven business scholarships awarded

KALAMAZOO -- Forty-seven WMU students recently awarded scholarships by the Haworth College of Business. The scholarships were awarded for the 2000-01 academic year and range from $50 to $5,000. The students were recognized for their academic excellence and extracurricular participation in the college's activities.

Vassana Ackhavong, Kalamazoo, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Pheng and Souvanh Ackhavong of Kalamazoo.

Rochelle Adderley, Detroit, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in business administration, she is the daughter of JoAnne Ford of Detroit.

Rebecca L. Beekman, Grand Rapids, Mich., Old Kent Bank Southwest Scholarship, a $750 award given to outstanding students in the Haworth College of Business. A junior majoring in accounting and management, she is the daughter of Betty M. Wells of Grand Rapids, and Timothy R. Beekman of Mishawaka, Ind.

Susan M. Block, Sterling Heights, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Amy L. and John M. Block of Sterling Heights.

Daniel K. Broten, Galesburg, Mich., Arnold and Roseanne Schneider Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic performance and named for Schneider, the founding dean of WMU's college of business, and his late first wife. A graduate student in the Masters of Business Administration program, concentrating in finance, he is the son of Patricia J. and Larry D. Broten.

Tenia C. Byrd, Southfield, Mich., General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $450 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in business administration, she is the daughter of Cynthia C. McLeod-Byrd of Southfield, and Robert M. Byrd of Flint.

Sharea L. Carson, Kalamazoo, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Yvette Carson of Kalamazoo.

Todd P. Cook, Pewamo, Mich., Farmers Insurance Group of Companies Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic performance, financial need and community involvement. A junior majoring in accounting, he is the son of Diane J. and Perry N. Cook of Pewamo.

Kelly L. DeRight, Paw Paw, Mich., Farmers Insurance Group of Companies Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic performance, financial need and community involvement. A sophomore majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Jane T. and Phillip B. DeRight of Paw Paw.

Chanetta Ranada Nicole Franklin, Inkster, Mich., General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Rita K. Franklin of Inkster.

Kathryn E. Gard, Clarkston, Mich., Farmers Insurance Group of Companies Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic performance and community involvement. A junior majoring in human resource management, she is the daughter of Jessica E. and Everett W. Gard of Clarkston.

Stacy B. Gardner, Evanston, Ill., Kalamazoo Gazette Internship and Scholarship Award, a $1,250 scholarship based on academic performance, financial need and essay. She is a junior majoring in computer information systems.

Patricia L. Garthe, Wyoming, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $350 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A sophomore majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Frances C. and Donald W. Garthe of Wyoming.

Angela M. Giordano, Warren, Mich., Bernadine Branchaw Award, a $300 scholarship based on academic achievement given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor of business information systems. A sophomore majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Linda and Tony Giordano of Warren.

Brian M. Greiner, Saranac, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A business student majoring in computer information systems, he is the son of Cheryl L. and Kenneth R. Greiner of Saranac.

Ofelia Hinojoza-Chow, Galesburg, Mich., Chubb Group of Insurance Companies Scholarship, a $1,000 award based on academic performance and an essay submission. She is a senior majoring in finance.

Priya Jaiswal, Kalamazoo, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $200 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Pushpa and Kamal P. Jaiswal of Kalamazoo.

Candice S. Kelley-Hall, Warren, Mich., Comerica Bank Scholarship, a $1,500 award based on academic achievement. A sophomore majoring in accounting, she is the daughter of Shawn R. Hall of Warren.

Barrie L. Kiser, Kalamazoo, Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association. A sophomore majoring in business, she is the daughter of Susan M. and Robert H. Kiser of Kalamazoo.

Erika D. Londrigan, Grand Blanc, Mich., General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in food marketing, she is the daughter of Desiree D. and Paul J. Londrigan of Grand Blanc.

Kyra J. Maclin, Detroit, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $150 award based on academic performance or financial need. A senior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Janet M. Chauffe and Derrick Maclin, both of Detroit.

Elena M. Mellen, Hastings, Mich., Senator Robert Welborn Memorial Scholarship, a $500 award presented to a student living in Welborn's original voting district and based on academic performance. A senior majoring in accounting, she is the daughter of Marcia A. and James A. Mellen of Hastings.

Christine L. Mullins, Vicksburg, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $500 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring in advertising and promotion, she is the daughter of Debra A. Mullins of Galesburg and William J. Fredericks of Parchment.

Shane M. O'Donnell, Grossee Ile, Mich., Art and Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade point average, provided by Dr. Margaret M. Sanders, professor emerita of business information systems, and her late husband, Arthur. A junior majoring in finance, he is the son of Betsy A. and Matthew D. O'Donnell of Grosse Ile.

Kristina L. Oleszkiewicz, Jenison, Mich., Roseanne Schneider Top Female BBA Award, a $500 award based on academic performance and named for Schneider, the first late wife of the founding dean of WMU's college of business. An April graduate who majored in integrated supply management, she is the daughter of Doreen L. and Bob R. Oleszkiewicz of Jenison.

Patrick M. Peoples, Detroit, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in management, he is the son of Constance D. and Mack A. Peoples of Detroit.

Alan J. Pumklin, Flint, Mich., General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, an award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in computer information systems, he is the son of Kittima and Kiat Pumklin of Flint.

Walter E. Regalado-Ventura, Detroit, Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $500 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in accounting, he is the son of Maria and Bennie Ford of Detroit.

Rachel L. Ritter, Sturgis, Mich., Phi Chi Theta Award, a $150 scholarship based on academic performance. A junior majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Barbara and Stephen Post of Sturgis, and Jon and Marjie Ritter of Colon.

Shane A. Rodgers, Jones, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $300 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A sophomore majoring in accounting, he is the son of Sandy E. and Tom L. Rodgers of Jones.

Maria V. Rodriguez, Paw Paw, Mich., Comerica Bank Scholarship, a $750 award based on academic achievement. A junior majoring in accounting and Spanish, she is the daughter of Dionisia Rodriguez of Paw Paw.

Monique M. Rodriguez, Middleville, Mich., Senator Robert Welborn Memorial Scholarship, a $500 award presented to a student living in Welborn's original voting district and based on academic performance. A junior majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Laura J. and Arnaldo R. Rodriguez of Middleville.

Sarah M. Rodriguez, Fennville, Mich., General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $750 award based on academic performance or financial need. A sophomore majoring in accounting, she is the daughter of Alicia and Jose A. Rodriguez of Fennville.

Stacy L. Sagady, Bay City, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $125 award supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A senior majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Kathleen S. and Fred D. Sagady of Bay City.

Kathlene M. Scheffers, Kalamazoo, Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $375 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. She is a senior majoring in human resource management.

Sara K. Schoeneman, Canton, Mich., Old Kent Bank Southwest Scholarship, a $750 award given to outstanding students in the Haworth College of Business. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter of Mary Jane and Dick E. Schoeneman of Canton.

Michelle R. Scholten, Wyoming, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A freshman planning to major in business, she is the daughter of Mae and Ron Scholten of Wyoming.

Rachel A. Stuve, Clinton Twp., Mich., Bernadine Branchaw Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic achievement, given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor of business information systems. A freshman planning to major in computer information systems, she is the daughter of Bev M. and Jay D. Stuve of Clinton Twp.

Chrysta E. Sweeney, Detroit, Kalamazoo Gazette Scholarship, a $5,000 award and internship, based on academic performance. A sophomore majoring in computer information systems and Spanish, she is the daughter of Edith E. and Thomas C. Sweeney of Detroit.

John L. Thelen, Fowler, Mich., Art and Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade point average, provided by Dr. Margaret M. Sanders, professor emerita of business information systems, and her late husband, Arthur. A sophomore majoring in accounting, he is the son of Mary Lou and Steven A. Thelen of Fowler.

Michelle A. Thomas, Detroit, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in accounting, she is the daughter of Modesta A. and Reginald Thomas of Detroit.

Regan C. Thorpe, Gobles, Mich., Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association. A sophomore majoring in accounting, he is the son of Cherre L. and John E. Thorpe of Gobles.

Katie L. VanderMolen, Eaton Rapids, Mich., Farmers Insurance Group of Companies Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic performance, financial need and community involvement. A sophomore majoring in business, she is the daughter of Cathy L. and Glenn L. VanderMolen of Eaton Rapids.

Christal L. Williams, Detroit, General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring in sales and business marketing, she is the daughter of Cheryl L. Watson of Detroit.

Joni M. Willingham, Pullman, Mich., Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first president of the WMU Alumni Association. A freshman majoring in business, she is the daughter of Wilma L. Yates of Pullman.

Lee Yee Yong, Slim River, Perak, Malaysia, Bernadine Branchaw Award, a $300 scholarship based on academic achievement given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor of business information systems. A junior majoring in computer information systems, she is the daughter of Yoke King Lam and Chew Yoon Yong of Slim River, Perak, Malaysia.

Timothy G. Zajaros Jr., Farmington, Mich., Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $100 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A sophomore majoring in finance, he is the son of Lisa M. and Timothy G. Zajaros of Farmington.
