KALAMAZOO -- Sophomore guard Brianne Gallert hit a jump shot as time expired to give the WMU women's basketball team its first lead of the game in a 74-72 come-from-behind thriller versus Eastern Michigan Thursday night (Feb. 3) at University Arena.
Gallert scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Broncos. She also dished out six assists and played all 40 minutes of the contest.
Eastern Michigan led by 15 points, 46-31, at the intermission.
Senior Shelsea Erving, the Broncos' second all-time leading scorer, matched Gallert's 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field. Senior Danielle Mueller played 37 minutes and contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds. Classmate Dionne Lassila hit 50 percent from the field. She scored 10 points on eight attempts.
EMU held rookie sensation Kristin Koetsier to single-digit scoring, with eight points, but Koetsier grabbed 10 rebounds to help give WMU a 38-34 advantage on the boards.
With the win, the Broncos improved to 11-9 overall and 8-1 in the Mid American Conference. WMU continues MAC competition with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Central Michigan University.
