Hockey Broncos split series at LSSU

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. -- The WMU hockey team split a pair of matches at Lake Superior State, winning 4-1 on Friday (Oct. 29) and losing 5-4 on Saturday (Oct. 30). Friday's victory was the first Bronco win at LSSU since Nov. 10, 1995.

The Broncos record now stands a 4-3-1 overall, and 4-3-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Broncos are 3-1 in road contests this season and 1-2-1 on their home ice.

In Saturday night's match, Lake Superior State scored all five of its goals in the first period, and WMU was unable to overcome a 5-0 deficit. Sophomore Mike Bishai (BEE-shy) got a goal and an assist. Bishai has a team-leading seven goals on the season and has scored in each of the Broncos past six matches. WMU also got short-handed goals from Jason Redenius (RED-dean-yes) and Ben Gagnon (GONE-yo).

In Friday's victory, sophomore goaltender Jeff Reynaert stopped 43 of 44 shots. Bishai had two goals in the 4-1 win.

WMU is home next weekend, Nov. 5 and 6, for a pair of matches with Northern Michigan. Faceoff at Lawson Ice Arena is at 7:05 p.m. for both contests.
