The Office of Student Engagement’s leadership experiences come in a variety of different formats to meet the different interests of our students. Attend one or attend them all!
Leadership and Involvement Conference
The Leadership and Involvement Conference aims to provide students the environment and tools necessary to learn new skills, connect with other student leaders and to plan for their upcoming leadership commitments on campus. Students can expect great keynote speakers, a variety of breakout sessions and opportunities to network with other students and community members.The event is open to all WMU students as well as students from institutions throughout Michigan. The 2018 Leadership and Involvement Conference will be taking place Saturday, September 29.
The Fall and Spring Leadership Retreats are two-day off-campus programs that are activity focused. These programs are developed and facilitated by students for students. The retreats include a low ropes course in the fall and a high ropes course in the spring. No matter what level leadership experience, the retreats are great ways for students to network with other student leaders and build upon their leadership skills. These events are WMU Signature and SPURS approved. The registration fee for each retreat is $10.
The Fall Leadership Retreat will be taking place at Merriewoode Girl Scout Camp on November 9-10, 2018.
The Spring Leadership Retreat will be taking place at Sherman Lake YMCA Camp on February 1-2, 2019.
The Leaders Unplugged program consists of backpacking trips focused on personal exploration and leadership concepts. There is a weekend trip in the fall and a week-long trip in the spring. The Fall Leaders Unplugged trip will take place October 17-19, 2018 and the Spring Leaders Unplugged trip will be held April 28-May 2, 2019. All WMU students are invited to participate regardless of outdoor experience.
