Proposals submitted to the National science Foundation are evaluated on both intellectual merit and broader impacts—BI. The Proposed research's potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes. BI activities show the relevance of the research to the public—and increasing determine which of multiple excellent proposals get funded. This workshop will describe the BI criterion, how to approach BI in the research, common and innovative BI activities, and ways to build BI into your career plan. Leave with ideas, resources, and pathways to partners.
